The Department of Defense also fined him $ 989,000 before being taken into custody. The former artist in his military uniform is said to have shaken his head in disbelief when the judge announced the verdict.

Seungri has faced several charges, including gambling and prostitution abroad, in connection with his involvement in the Burning Sun nightclub scandal in the Gangnam neighborhood of Seoul. The star landed before a military tribunal after signing up for the army.

The star’s case was brought to a military tribunal after it was drafted in March 2020. Because of the ongoing war with North Korea, he had to register for a mandatory 21-month military service in South Korea.

The former musician was initially charged with various charges in January 2020. The charges included running an unlicensed adult entertainment company and embezzlement.

The former singer was charged with finding prostitutes for investors from Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong and other countries. He is said to have participated from December 2015 to January 2016.

Seungri didn’t leave the band until 2019 after the media started covering his criminal activities.

His actions were aimed at securing investments in the Burning Sun Seoul nightclub and funding for other companies affiliated with it. The star is also said to have embezzled millions of his club funds.

When this case surfaced in 2019, his fans, journalists and other fans began harassing them for just talking about it in hopes of clearing his name.

From December 2013 to August 2017, Seungri habitually gambled with billions at stake in Las Vegas and allegedly violated the Foreign Exchange Transaction Act.

Seungri has been one of the biggest K-pop stars since Big Bang successfully built a huge following in Asia and other parts of the world. In 2006 the band debuted for the first time.

In 2016 Forbes magazine reported that the group had posted $ 44 million in pre-tax profit in 2015. Seungri didn’t leave the band until 2019 after the media started covering his criminal activity scandal.

Before his conviction, the South Korean military prosecutor of the former singer had hoped to get a five-year prison sentence for him, according to a report by Rappler from July 2021.
