According to Billboard on Tuesday (US time), BTS became the top-selling artist in total CD album sales in the US for the first half of this year.

The K-pop juggernaut sold 573,000 copies of its CD albums from January 1 to July 1, most from a single music act in the United States, Billboard said, citing music sales data provider MRC Data.

The American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift followed with 414,000 units sold.

However, in broader physical album sales that included vinyl albums and cassettes, the American Diva came first with 746,000 copies, followed by the Korean men’s band with 573,000 copies. All BTS physical album sales were in CD format.

The seven-piece boy band was also runner-up in total album sales that combine physical and digital album sales. Swift was the top music seller in the category.

BTS managed to do this, although no new CD album was released in the first half of this year. The group last released a CD album, “BE”, in November last year.

The band’s latest mega-hit, Butter, was released as a digital single in May before it hit stores on CD earlier this month.

According to MRC Data, two BTS songs, “Butter” and “Dynamite,” ranked first and second on the company’s list of the top 10 best-selling digital songs in the United States as of mid-2021.

The group also had two of their albums on their mid-year list of the top 10 physical albums in the United States – “BE” at # 6 and “Map of the Soul: 7”, released at # 10 in February 2020.

Meanwhile, another K-Pop act, NCT, ranks 8th on the list with their album “Resonance Pt. 1”, which was released in October. (Yonhap)
