Laureano went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and a stolen base in the Athletics 8-1 loss to the Padres on Tuesday.
The stolen base was Laureano’s first since July 10, and only his fourth since mid-April, after running 8v9 on steal attempts in his first nine competitions of the season. Laureano’s decision to be more careful when running does not seem to be the result of any organizational philosophy; for example, the newly acquired Starling Marte collected five stolen bases in his first five games with Oakland. Instead, Laureano may run less often, as track and field has recently used him in a more run-producing role. He’s finished fourth or fifth in the sequence in all but four of his last 12 starts, and he’ll take the clean-up spot in the series finale with the Padres on Wednesday.
